2024 Summer Day Camps

Aladdin
Adapted by Michael McGill •
Music and Lyrics by Michael McGill

For Aladdin it’s not easy to find a magic lamp but it’s even harder to get a date! It’s a swirling sandstorm of famous Arabian Tales from Ali Baba to Scheherazade, and even Sinbad the Sailor, as Aladdin journeys to find a magic lamp in a Cave of (not-so-great) Wonders. Along his way Aladdin seeks answers and advice from wise Genies, a powerful Sultan, and his own Mother to find a way to meet the Princess. However, even with the lamp in hand, Aladdin will have to learn that it takes more than a wish to make a good impression. Full of memorable characters, from lost Penguins to talking Palm Trees, this is an adventure worthy of 1,001 laughs.

Rapunzel
Adapted by Michael McGill • Music and Lyrics by Michael McGill

Would it surprise you to know that the story of Rapunzel happened in France? Well, it didn’t really, but our story takes you on a frivolous frolic through the French countryside. The Ogres garden in the Mushroom patch while the Corn and Potato spies report back to Madame Gothel. Frenchy and his intense friends, the Wood Elves, do their best to help Rapunzel escape the grasp of Madame Gothel. The lost Prince, Rapunzel’s parents, and her friends the Unicorns try to help. Just when you think it’s safe to cross the bridge, a Troll and Three Billy Goats Gruff get in the way. It doesn’t help that the Three Bears (or is it four) confuse Rapunzel with Goldilocks and chase her through the forest. Add to that the Gremlins trying to play tricks on everyone, and you have chaos! Well, it’s not that bad because the Pixies foil the Gremlins’ plans most of the time. In short, Rapunzel and all the rest of the characters tell a silly tale of personal triumph and friendship.

Hansel and Gretel
Adapted by Jim Caron •
Music and Lyrics by Michael McGill and Jim Caron

Times are tough for modern-day Hank and Gretchen, ‘til they find themselves deep in the wondrous Wildwood world of Hansel and Gretel. The Missoula Children’s Theatre proudly presents an original musical adaptation of the Brothers Grimm age-old tale of a journey, a secret and a grand adventure.  Poor Hank and Gretchen! All of their friends, off to summer camp, have left them behind. While waiting for dinner, Hank and Gretchen fall asleep and dream their way to times gone by. They wake with a start!  Their clothes are so strange–and so are their names. Lost in the deep dark woods, Granny leads Hansel and Gretel on a search for the path which will lead them to better times at home. But as evening approaches and the moon rises above the trees, Hansel and Gretel are not alone! The Rascals dart from tree to tree as sweet little Wallybirds innocently munch on the cookie crumbs left as a map on the forest floor. Crafty cooks and Gingerbread Men lead our heroes to a colorful cottage concocted completely of candy and cakes, where Hansel and Gretel unravel the secret of the Wildwood Witch: Is she bad? Or is she good? Is she wicked…Or misunderstood? There’s music and laughter and thrills and chills. So join the fun as Hansel and Gretel’s dream is mysteriously blended with real life, and the lessons of one apply to the other. You’ll learn the secret of the Wildwood — but, shhh — don’t tell!

Peter and Wendy
Adapted by Michael McGill • Music and Lyrics by Michael McGill

When Captain Hook sends his right-hand man, Smee, on a quest to capture Peter Pan, it’s seemingly business as usual…at first. Little does Hook realize what fantastic adventures await him and his pirate posse in their search for the elusive Peter Pan. Mistaken identities, ever-morphing clouds, a classy crocodile, some very lost boys, and a fickle shadow all add to the mayhem. Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Darling embark on a quest of their own and find themselves trekking everywhere from Hawaii to the North Pole in search of their three missing children. With help from the earth-friendly Neverlanders, exotic Neverland creatures, and faithful Tinker Bell, the Darling children are found, disputes are ultimately resolved, and everyone–including Captain Hook–finds a place where they truly belong.
