“Put Ze Candle…Back.” This iconic line from Young Frankenstein, Mel Brooks’ 1974 classic comedy (filmed in black and white), is but one of countless moments in the parody above all parodies. Our musical version is not black and white…it’s filled with color. Colorful characters, and colorful language–a staple of parodies.Think of the timeless tale of Frankenstein told in the most ridiculous, please don’t take it seriously way, stuffed with double entrendres of the sexual variety and I can’t believe I’m laughing at this outdated joke moments. Dr. Frankenstein (er, Fronk-en steen) inherits a castle, builds a monster, man meets girl (“Roll in the Hay”), monster destroys the town (“He’s Loose”) and learns to tap dance (“Puttin’ on the Ritz”). Some of the jokes may go over the heads of young children, but the PG-13 Parental Guidance Recommended rating is well-warranted, due to the adult humor. If you know and love Mel Brooks (The Producers, High Anxiety), there will be no surprises. If not, do a little research before purchasing so you don’t want to Put Ze Ticket…Back!

Since its Broadway debut in 1996, this story of love, friendship and a pandemic is still relevant today. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the late Jonathan Larson’s Rent has become a cultural phenomenon that shaped a generation. Loosely based on Puccini’s opera La Bohème, Rent is a rock musical set in the 1990s in New York City’s East Village. This story of “sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll”, which is recommended for audience members 17+, has some very powerful and positive messages about living for today and measuring life in love (“Seasons of Love”), but the darker shadows of the AIDS epidemic, drug addiction, and the gentrification of Alphabet City loom over this group of young artists as they struggle to survive. Will these friends – a documentary filmmaker looking for his story, a musician trying to write one last song (“One Song Glory”), a stripper with a secret, an anarchist professor, an activist actress, a liberal lawyer, and a drumming drag queen be able to make the rent and still keep living “La Vie Bohème”? Experience the power of living in no day but today (“Another Day”).

Ever have that dream—the lights go up, you forget all your lines, the scenery crashes down around you, your costume malfunctions (if you’re even wearing one), your co-star falls out the window, but you must carry on…something like that? In the dream, it’s anything but funny and you wake up in a cold sweat. But when you see this mad-cap comedy, The Play That Goes Wrong, the sweat may come from laughing too vigorously. A winner of London’s Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2015 from the producers of Avenue Q, this play within a play gives the audience an appreciation for what ‘could’ go wrong when everything, truly everything, goes off the rails. Set in the 1920s on the opening night of The Murder at Haversham Manor, the cast of players fumbles through two hours of unexpected disaster while holding it together, despite the Monty Python, Three Stooges’ brand of mayhem of physical comedy at its absolute finest. They know that ‘the show must go on,’ but can they survive until the final bows?
Presented by arrangement with Dramatists Play Service under license from Mischief Worldwide Ltd. The Mischief Production of The Play That Goes Wrong was originally produced on the West End Stage by Kenny Wax & Stage Presence and on Broadway by Kevin McCollum, J.J. Abrams, Kenny Wax & Stage Presence.

Once upon a time (well, 1991), the tale as old as time captured the hearts and imaginations of millions when Beauty and the Beast burst onto movie theatre screens capturing multiple Academy awards and nominations, then onto the Broadway stage where it garnered 9 Tony Award nominations including Best Musical. While the story begins with a vain and cruel prince whose punishment is to be transformed into a hideous beast, banished to live behind castle walls, his hope of redemption comes in the form of a beautiful and bookish girl (Belle), who dreams of adventure outside of her provincial town. She stumbles upon the castle, meeting the enchanted servants (Lumière the charming French valet), Mrs. Potts (the kind hearted head of the kitchen staff), Babette (the feather-dusting maid), and others, all who invite Belle to put their service to the test as she seeks to find beauty beneath the beast. This classic, colorful and fantastical fairy tale features some of Disney’s most beloved characters and greatest musical numbers, but it does have some darker moments on the journey, as most fairy tales do. MCT invites you to Be Our Guest at this 2023-2024 season finale.
