Education Director

MCT, Inc. (Missoula Children’s Theatre and Missoula Community Theatre) is seeking an energetic, passionate, and focused leader to serve as its next Education Director. This is a full-time position with occasional evening and weekend hours required. This position requires someone who is knowledgeable about the creation of theatre-based curricula and teaching theatre to young people. We are looking for someone who has the vision and leadership skills to manage a successful education program, and who has the ability and desire to positively contribute to an inclusive organization. Applicants for this role should have robust oral and written communication skills, relationship building skills, strong project management, business development and people management skills.

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
MCT, Inc. is the umbrella organization for the Missoula Children’s Theatre and Missoula Community Theatre. Missoula Children’s Theatre is the world’s largest touring children’s theatre operating year-round and reaching all 50 states as well as overseas. Local children’s programming offers a variety of classes, productions and camps. Missoula Community Theatre consists of a seasonal production series.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Education Director is responsible for leading and advancing the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s mission to develop life skills in children through participation in the performing arts. MCT reaches young people and their communities in schools, at the theatre, and in community settings. The Education Director designs and communicates a vision for Education, is accountable for the financial stability of education programs, and serves as the outfacing representative of MCT in education matters. The Education Director also develops workshops for MCT’s International Tour Project and trains Tour Actor/Directors as requested by the Tour Production Director.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A Master’s (preferred) or a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Education or related field, or equivalent work experience in theatre arts education, program development, developing curriculum, working with youth, families, and schools.

  • Broad understanding of all aspects of theatre education with specific knowledge of developmental and education theories and the impact theatre has on youth.
  • Experience as a teaching artist, managing and training staff, developing budgets and financial management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Patient, likable, and a strong mentor to students and young artists
  • Strong skills in MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel and Publisher. Prior experience with Patron Manager is helpful, but not required.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS

  • Annual Salary Range: $35,000 to $45,000 based on experience
  • Health, vision and dental benefits available, partially subsidized by employer contributions, after a waiting period

  • Artistic outlets are available for candidates whose skillset could add to MCT in areas outside of the Education Department: Directing, Lighting, Scenic or Costume Design, for example
