Cancellation

MCT’s Executive Director, Michael McGill, has announced the cancellation of The Missoula Community Theatre’s production of Matilda. Matilda was originally scheduled as the final show of the 2019-2020 season but was postponed until this October 2020 due to Covid-19.  The hope was that it could be produced as originally intended—with a cast and crew of nearly 50 people playing to full houses of 300 patrons for a three-week run.  When it became clear the full production could not be mounted, many other scenarios were considered. In the end it was a matter of balancing MCT’s substantial need for income, the requirements of the royalty (script rental) contract, and concern for the health and safety of the cast, crew and patrons. The scales tipped in favor of putting health and safety first. Sadly, we will continue with what has been the longest ‘intermission’ in MCT’s 50-year history.   

We are enormously grateful for your patience, grace and kindness during this decision-making process.  You are the reason why MCT has stayed strong and viable for these past 50 years and why we will continue into the next 50. You have shown amazing flexibility during this year of ‘pandemic pandemonium’ and for that we say thanks!  Thanks to those of you who offered to donate back the cost of your tickets, easing MCT’s financial burden.  Thanks to those of you who felt comfortable requesting a refund and understood the process might take a little time to complete, given the number of loyal patrons we serve.

We are planning to move ahead with the remaining four productions in this 2020-2021 Missoula Community Theatre season. While continuing with these plans, we will also remain vigilant and nimble to comply with guidance from health officials; adapting to change in a year that has brought nothing but change.  Our commitment is always to provide a wonderful, entertaining and safe experience for you.  We will continue to update you as the year progresses, so please stay tuned.
