Handel’s Julius Caesar finds Caesar in pursuit of his fellow Roman and enemy, Pompey. Pompey flees to Egypt’s Nile Valley and is killed by the Egyptians, led by King Tolomeo. Tolomeo’s sister, Cleopatra, seeking to take the throne of Egypt from her brother, enlists the help of Caesar, who has fallen in love with her. Politics and passion play out through Handel’s sumptuous score.
