For 40 years, the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) has invited young performers from all over the world to audition for its Performing Arts Camps. Through both its international tour and Missoula-based productions, MCT has worked with approximately 65,000 kids this past year. Of those, hundreds auditioned for MCT’s summer Performing Arts Camps. From that group, nearly 200 teens were chosen to participate in this year’s camp and production of I Love NY. This exhilarating showcase of young talent will take place Thurs., Aug. 9-Sat., Aug. 11 at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts.
So many fantastic musicals are set in vibrant New York City, the surrounding diverse boroughs, and the historically significant state as a whole. I Love NY will be a dynamic reflection of some of the most beloved of those shows. A musical revue brimming with lively choreography, the entire showcase will be learned in just 10 days at Flathead Lake. The day before the showcase opens, the cast will return to Missoula to prepare the show for its 6 performances at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts.
For MCT, the Performing Arts Camp showcase represents a pinnacle of fulfilling its mission: the development of life skills through participation in the performing arts. All of the performers participated in a Missoula Children’s Theatre production somewhere in the world. Many of them grew up with MCT. For some of them, MCT may be their only access to theatre. But when those 200 kids come together as one on the MCT stage, and you see what they create through hard, joyful work and sheer youthful determination, you’ll understand why MCT does what it does.
