Statement regarding “The Mikado” language

February 1, 2011

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire MCT, Inc. family, I apologize to our audience, our communities, and to Sarah Palin for language included in a recent MCT Community Theatre production.

At times, our Community Theatre does delve into current events or present what certain audiences may construe as sensitive material. In this particular situation, however, we recognize that we made a mistake. The offending language was inappropriate and insensitive and should not have been included in the finished piece. We have implemented a policy to ensure this doesn’t happen again. I will review all scripts and scores—including re-writes and additions—with closer scrutiny and greater sensitivity.

To clarify, MCT Community Theatre productions are solely performed in the local theater and do not reflect content performed in our children’s productions. Productions produced through the Missoula Children’s Theatre are family-friendly fare, appropriate for all ages.

Again, the Board of Directors and I offer our sincerest apologies.
