What is Play in a Day?

Play in a Day (PiD) is an intensive, one-day theatre class that is held at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts in Missoula, MT. PiD is offered on most Missoula County Public School no school days from 9AM-5:45PM. In PiD, students rehearse and perform an original play based on a theme selected for that session. These performances are held in a classroom at MCT and not on the MCT stage.

What is the age requirement for Play in a Day?

Students enrolled in Kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible for PiD. Older students who would like to serve as an assistant for a PiD session can email education@MCTinc.org for availability.

How many students can participate in a session?

PiD can accommodate 40 students per session.

Does my student need to have previous theatre experience to participate in Play in a Day?

Absolutely not! Students need to come to PiD with the ability to follow directions and have the emotional and physical stamina for a long (but fun!) day at MCT.

What is the typical schedule for Play in a Day?

8:45-9:00 – Check-in at the MCT lobby

9:00-9:30 – Theatre games

9:30-10:30 – Learn 1/3 of the play

10:30-11:00 – Tour MCT

11-11:45 – Review 1/3 of the play, learn 2/3 of the play

11:45-12:30 – Lunch, watch ½ of a movie

12:30-2:00 – Finish learning the play

2:00-2:45 – Arts and crafts (decorating set and costume pieces)

2:45-3:15 – Rehearse the play

3:15-4:00 – Snack, watch the last ½ of a movie

4:00-5:15 – Rehearse

5:15-5:30 – Audience arrives, cast focuses for performance

5:30-5:45 – Performance! Students dismissed to family and friends

Will my student be wearing costumes and makeup?

Every PiD session students will create and wear a simple costume piece (i.e. a mask) or have stage make-up applied. Any costume pieces will be worn over student clothing.

What does my student need to bring for their class?

Students need to bring a lunch, snack and drinks for the day (water is preferred). Due to the active nature of the class, it is encouraged that students wear tennis shoes and clothes that are not constrictive or revealing.

Do I need a ticket for the performance at the end of the class?

No. Seats for the performances are available on a first come, first served basis. Seating will begin at 5:20PM for each session.

How long are the performances?

Approximately 10 minutes.

Is performing at the end of the day optional?

No. Students attending PiD must be available to perform at the end of the day.

How do I register my student?

Registration for PiD can be completed on the MCT website.

How much is tuition for Play in a Day?

PiD is $50 per student, per session.

Do you offer scholarships?

At this time, we do not offer scholarships for PiD.

Is Play in a Day available to tour to my town?

No. PiD is only offered as a class at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts in Missoula, MT. Students do not need to live in Missoula to participate in the class.
